William O. Owen State of Wyoming Cheyenne April 19, 1899 Dear Col:- I could go right away to make that survey for D. Holland but would hardly dare to make an engagement very far ahead, as I am expecting orders from the commissioner of the Land Office every day, and I presume there will be nothing to do but to go when the orders come. I have no idea where my orders will take me, being utterly in the dark concerning the matter, not do I know when I shall get away from Wyoming, being entirely subject to the Commissioner's orders. If I can leave right away I shall be glad to make that fossil survey, as I can do the work and get back in a very short time, but I fear it would be risky to chance an engagement many days in the future. My appointment came a week ago, and I am now United States Examiner of Surveys. Sincerely yours, W.O. Owens
