March 22, 1899: Holland from Reed - Agreement It is mutually agreed this 22nd day of March, A.D. 1899, between W. J. Holland, Director of the Carnegie Museum in the City of Pittsburgh, acting on behalf of the authorities of same Museum, and W. H. Reed, of Laramie, Wyoming, that said W. H. Reed shall enter into the service of said Museum as a field collector, his engagement to date from -------- and his compensation to be fixed upon the basis of the terms hereinafter set forth. 1. Said Reed is to receive compensation for the term of three years at the rate of eighteen hundred dollars per annum, paid in twelve monthly instalments from the date hereinbefore given; but in case his period of service should terminate by the act of the authorities of the said Carnegie Museum at the end of the first year, he is to receive two hundred dollars additional salary; and in case he should be discharged from the further service of the Carnegie Museum at any time after the expiration of the first year of his engagement, and before the termination of the term of three years, said Reed is to receive additional compensation from the date of his original engagement to the date of his discharge as if his salary had been fixed at the rate of two thousand dollars per annum. And should the authorities of the Carnegie Museum succeed in effecting a title to the remains of the great dinosaur discovered by said W. H. Reed, and should these remains be found after they have been exhumed to be in reasonably perfect condition, in case of his discharge from the employment of the CM before the end of the term of 3 years, then said Reed is to receive in addition to his salary, as a honorarium for the discovery of this specimen, the sum of not less than five hundred dollars nor more than one thousand dollars, the amount to be fixed upon conference between himself and the Director
