My dear Dr. Holland; I did not write you as usual last Saturday as there was a great deal of work to do here, and in addition I thought that I might give you more information after the regular meeting of the Committee, which was held on Tuesday. I was very glad to receive my first letter from you on Wednesday of this week and to know that you and Coggeshall had safely arrived in Berlin. The work of the museum has gone along in a very satisfactory way and we were ready for Founder's Day. At the Committee meeting on Tuesday it was decided to send Hasemen $500 more to continue his work in Brazil. $375 was granted to Todd and Carriker for an expedition to Ontario; they will leave the latter part of this month. The purchase of the Gschwend collection of coins was turned down, though Mr. Elder placed the valuation at $6890, and Gschwend offered to sell it for $6000, as you know. It was the decided opinion of Mr. Mellor, Judge Macfarlane, and Judge Shafer that this money could be used to better advantage by the museum. I enclose you a duplicate of my report to the Committee.
