My dear Colonel Johnston, I take the first opportunity since my return to Pittsburgh of renewing my abounding thanks for all the kind hospitality which you and your charming wife showed me during my stay in the capital of Mexico. Mrs. Johnston, with most delightful kindness, as she no doubt has told you, drove me to the diplomatic entrace at the railway station and saw me safely on board the sleeper for San Antonio. Through her kindness we were able to avoid the crowds in the outer depot.
