Your letter of Sept. 1st came this morning.

Mrs. Douglass received the painting some time ago and has written to you thanking you for it. She surely appreciates it and shows it with pride to everybody who comes and can appreciate such things.

The deepening cut which we had started from the west end we have opened to the 112 foot line, so we are still west of the tangle of bones which we got out last winter.
