We are now going into the third bone layer -- apparently the one which more nearly corresponds to the most productive layer farther east. Here we are getting the skeleton of a Brontosaurus like animal. It looks now as if it were going to turn out to be a gem. But its the old story. I do not think there is a bone that is just like the corresponding one in our mounted skeleton, and its perhaps a sixth smaller. We are uncovering bones every hour now and the indications at present point to a complete skeleton. We have now partly in sight 2 Scapulae 2 Coracoids, 1 Femur, 1 Fibula, 1 Humerus 1 Pubis, 1 Ischium, about 6 Ribs, 4 or 5 Toe bones, 3 or 4 Caudals and probably portions of several Dorsals etc. The bones are complete and so far not distorted. There are no wide weathered seams in this part of the quarry. The ribs are 6 ft and more in length and are beautiful. The femur is about 5 ft long with heavy shaft; the coracoids are separate as are the pubes from the ischia. The pubes are short and broad, the humerus four feet long. This arouses again this long deceptive hope that we may get a skull of Brontosaurus, Apatosaurus, or whatever it is in undoubted association. We have got him here far from any weathered area where there has been little chance for anything to get destroyed if it was once entombed. I have written you about the turning down of our patent. I think we will get word from you in ample time to try to get thing reviewed. If not we will take necessary steps.
