I have said several times after studying the ledge that all or nearly all the sandstone above would have to come down some day. I felt that if it were not taken down we could not be sure that there were not skulls there or other valuable material, but we were deferring that for some more opportune time. The task of beginning at the top of the ledge and working it down with picks, bars and powder would have been considerable and perhaps slightly dangerous. We cannot tell yet how much damage has been done to bones but hardly think it is more than it would have been if we had worked it down in that way. Fortunately the most of No. 240 was out of the way. For my part I am glad it is down.
