My dear Stewart: We expect to start today on a trip into the Tertiary deposits east of here where remains of fossil mammals have been found. It will probably be necessary to return for a short time about the first of August. In regard to the forty-dollar payment to W.E. Farrar the monthly statement for September is correct and agrees with the receipted statement and receipt of balance with was sent later. There is only one $40 item on the September account. When Peterson and Coggeshall were here there was an extra expense and in line with your instructions I sent you a statement to show the main items which were to be covered by the extra appropriation. In the list due W.E. Farrar payment on Lumber $40. I can see no other explanation than that face that this was reckoned in with that on the final monthly statement. I am enclosing receipted balance and statement on account fo a later transaction with Mr. Farrar. Mr. Farrar has no account fo the $39 check of which you sent me the photostat, and he has not sent the receipted statement which I had sent him. I will write to the Telephone compnay and get the receipts which the Auditor say are lacking. I will probably send them with report of July.
