My dear Stewart: We have just returned from another trip and I ahve to go to Vernal so will send but a brief note. Mr. Kay will get ready and he plans to get started by about the first of October. We did not go out to the place for which we started. It is about 40 miles from a well travelled road and unusually hazardous and I thought it not best to risk breakdown and heavy expense so we collected in another place on safe ground. I nver had a more interesting trip. Found abundance of fossil plants and insects. We not only found the leaves of plants but the flowers and fruits. Tell Mr. Jennings that in case of some of the flowers he can study them as well as herbarium specimens only he cannot take off the stamens, pistils etc and examine them with the microscope. Probably we have 15 or 20 different species of flowers and more than that number of fruits. Some of the latter are in clusters. Apparently large collection of these can be made and the fossil botanist need murmur no more "Nothing but leaves". We made a large collection, boxed them upand shipped them by freight from Rainbow. I have not Bills of Lading as these will be sent to me from Watson where the box willhave to be weighed. They wished freight charges prepaid but I guaranteed them so I think everything will be all right. I did not get any letter from the office, but will continue
